December 2021 Dead Zones, Dropped Connections, and Interruptions
What a way to wake up on a Thursday morning. There should have been many things going through my mind that day: remembering the things I needed to take on our trip; packing, last minute cleaning, taking care of our bird. So much to do, so little time. Preparing my heart for our CFO Retreat. So then why was I thinking of dead zones, dropped connections and interruptions?
I believe it was a reminder from God, a warning. He was reminding me to look to Him, listen and to wait for Him, a time to stop, look and listen for His voice.
If you have ever been to a retreat you know that it is a time to leave the tv, the cell phone, things back home behind us. It is a time to seek the Lord, to go out deep, deeper in His love than we've been before. At our retreat much time is spent in prayer, meditation, worship, and praise. It is a time to seek God, and to give it all to Him. It is a time to receive encouragement, to be an encourager to others through fellowship.
My mind kept coming back to those words. But why, why them? Why now? Dead zones, dropped connections and interruptions. As we rode to Ft. Caswell on Oak Island, I listened to our car radio. Sure enough trees, building, hills, and valley temporarily interrupted our favorite songs. But not so bad as back in the good old days.
Those first tv's little screens, black and white, three channels, snowy pictures, static, and poor service. The same with the first "bag" cell phones, big, bulky and not so very dependable. Cell phones and the networks are far superior to what they were, but even now you will still hit dead zones. I lose my radio signal right downtown in the middle of Rocky Mount, at the stoplight on Sunset Main. It must be the buildings.
But lets bring all this back to God!! What holds us back when He speaks? What keeps us from hearing Him? Could it be us? Are we letting things, television, internet, phones, people, the "I wants" of life causing us to miss God? Does the enemy cause distractions to keep us from God's Word? Do we walk away to do or our things rather than hear from him? Do we let politics, the news media, riots, protest and world situations distract us? Are there times when there are missed communications between us and God" Are these dead zones, dropped connections and interruptions?
Think about it. Spending time with God fills us with everything that the world can't offer. Love, Joy, Peace, Hope, Faith, and much more. We find our Strength to cope with life in a God who is real.
Isaiah 12:2: Surely God is my salvation; I will
trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord
himself, is my strength and my defense,"
He has become my salvation.
