In “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss, the Grinch took every gift, every ornament, everything he could get his hands on thinking that if the Who’s lost all their stuff, then they would cry instead of sing and Christmas wouldn’t come. But high up on the mountain he heard all the Who’s in Whoville singing and Christmas came anyhow. And in one of the most famous quotes in the book, it says’’...
And the Grinch. With his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so?
It came without ribbons. It came without tags.
It came without packages, boxes, or bags.
And he puzzled and puzzled “till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before.
What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store.
What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
During a children’s Christmas musical, each child held up one letter to represent the first letter of the words they were singing about. The letters would eventually spell CHRISTMAS LOVE. But the child holding the letter M held it upside down. Everyone laughed until they discovered it had spelled “CHRISTWAS LOVE.”
